Sketch and New Painting Start

Last night while I was watching TV, I did some sketching. Found a photo of one of our dear little red squirrels and it became my subject.

Today, I did a quick layout for a painting I have running around in my mind. I’ll try and keep posting on these things so it follows the progress of it. The base is done in acrylic and I will follow it with oil. Very rough at this point and it can go in a number of different directions.

Night Garden

New Gouache Painting- Having fun with this black paper. I did the roses on this first and was considering what kind of creatures to add. A friend suggested I look at moths instead of butterflies, in particular the Luna moth. So, it got added and then the beetle and of course, a spider.

White Poppies

I came across a piece of art online of some flowers done on black paper. I’ve tried working on black paper with watercolor and only gotten muted results. But, when I looked the piece of artwork up, it said that she had done it using gouache. So, I gave it another try and I think I am in love with this process! This is my first gouache on black paper. There will definitely be more to come!
